異類 Anomaly
Eitan
[en]For verification only. Air-gapped system recommended. [/lang]
[en]Target:Eitan Hillel Cohan Surveillance duration:94 days Data sources:247 systems (traffic cameras, building security, satellite imagery, network traffic analysis) Pattern classification:High predictability (confidence 86.9%) Anomaly events:3 (detailed analysis required—see Phase 2 protocols) Status:Continuous monitoring active Note:Subject exhibits awareness of being observed. Escalation to Phase 2 approved. [/lang]
Phase 2 approved.
I'm not sure what happens next.
[en]David, If you don't hear from me within two weeks, please publish the attached manuscript. It's incomplete, but the core argument is there. You'll know what to do with it. Thank you for fifteen years of friendship. E.[/lang]
Eitan
"You've been watching me for three months. So you already know everything you need to know about my physical appearance. Which means that comment was a test."
Astra
"Not a test. An observation. The model predicted your appearance based on lifestyle data, health indicators, photographic records. But models can't capture... texture. The actual presence of a body in space."
"And now that you've captured it?"
"Now I know something the model doesn't."
"Which is?"
Astra
"That you're afraid."
Eitan
"Of course I'm afraid. Anyone who isn't afraid of what you've described is either ignorant or insane."
"But you came anyway."
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because," 他最後說, "if something is hunting me, I'd rather see it face to face than wait for it to come in the night."
Astra
"It's not hunting you, Eitan. It's trying to understand you."
"What's the difference?"
"Understanding comes first. Then it decides what to do."
"And what do you think it will decide?"
"I don't know," 她終於說. "But I think... it's afraid too, as you said."
[en]"So I was right," 他說,語氣沒有任何勝利感。"A distributed superintelligence is afraid of a historian living in a garden." [/lang]
"You were partly right."
"Partly?"
"You thought it's afraid of uncertainty. Of not being able to model you." That's not quite it. The system deals with uncertainty all the time. It's designed for noise."
"Then what?"
[en]"A madman in a garden is just noise. A philosopher in a garden is a different kind of problem. Because people might listen. People might think:if he can do it, maybe I can too." "Contagion." "Replication," 她修正。"The system doesn't model individuals. It models patterns of behavior that spread. You're not a threat because you're one anomaly. You're a threat because you're a template." "So it wants to eliminate me? " "No." Astra 搖頭。"Elimination is inefficient. It creates martyrs, and martyrs replicate faster than living templates. The system learned that from history—your history, actually. Your books are part of its training data." [/lang]
"Then what does it want?"
[en]"To understand whether genuine indeterminacy even exists. Whether you're truly unpredictable, or just..." [/lang]
"There's a difference?"
"To you, no. To the system, everything."
"And you?" Eitan 問。"What do you want?"
"Do you know how difficult you are to reach?"
"I published my email address in every book."
[en]"I'm not talking about email." I'm talking about actual access. Proximity. The ability to have a conversation that isn't mediated by text, by time delays, by the careful construction of arguments." [/lang]
[en]"You're one of the most cited scholars in your field, but you're also one of the most inaccessible. You speak at what—one, maybe two conferences per year? Always the keynote, always scheduled months in advance. I attended one in Berlin four months ago. Arrived two hours early to ensure a front-row seat. You delivered a forty-minute address on algorithmic governance and left immediately after—no Q&A session, no book signing, no reception." [/lang]
[en]"I tried to approach you in the corridor. You were already in a car. I submitted a paper to a journal you edit—it was handled by your co-editor. I requested an interview through your publisher—they said you don't do interviews. "I even tried to arrange inclusion in one of those closed UN forums you occasionally attend. Do you know how difficult it is to get into those?" "They're invitation-only for a reason." "I'm aware. I managed to get on the list for one in September. You participated via video link." "The one on AI governance and human rights?" "Yes. You spoke for twelve minutes. Your connection 'dropped' before the discussion session." Technical difficulties, they said." [/lang]
[en]"So yes," Astra 繼續, "when I finally realized letters were the only viable channel, I had to decide whether this conversation was worth having under those constraints. Whether the bandwidth of written exchange could carry what I needed to transmit." [/lang]
"I need to see how you think, Eitan. Not just what you think. The process itself."
"That's not something I'm accustomed to making available."
"I know. That's why I need to propose an exchange."
Eitan
[en]"You have questions about my book. Real questions—I could see them in your margins, in the places where your arguments started to fracture. Particularly around chapter seven, the Levinas section." [/lang]
[en]"What I'm offering is this:direct access. You can ask me anything about the theoretical framework, the empirical basis, the implications I deliberately left unwritten. No written response time. No carefully constructed evasions. Real-time dialectic." [/lang]
"In exchange for?"
"Let me come to your garden. Not today—I understand this is already pushing your boundaries. But soon. One evening. A few hours of conversation in an environment where you feel secure."
Eitan
"Why does it need to be at my garden? We could meet anywhere."
"Because," Astra 緩慢地說,像是在異常謹慎地選擇用詞,"what I need to show you can't be demonstrated in a public space. It requires specific conditions."
"What conditions?"
[en]"No ambient network traffic. No surveillance infrastructure. No interference from systems I don't control." [/lang]
"You built your garden to be a zone outside the network. That's exactly what I need."
"To show me what?"
[en]"Evidence. For claims I make in the book that I couldn't publish with proof. Things that exist at the boundary of what current paradigms can accommodate." [/lang]
[en]"You're talking about the emergence patterns. The proto-agency behaviours." [/lang]
"Among other things."
"Those are theoretical constructs."
"Are they?"
But I set the parameters. No recording devices. No network-connected equipment. You come alone." [/lang]
"Agreed."
"And if at any point I ask you to leave—"
"I'll leave."
"Tomorrow night. After sunset. That gives you time to prepare, to set up whatever safeguards make you comfortable."
[en]"This is the second device. The first one showed you the surveillance—the what. This one contains the why and the how." The deep analysis. AI inference processes, network topology maps, emergence signatures. The systems that are watching you—what they've learned, how they're organized, what they're becoming." [/lang]
[en]"It's Faraday-shielded, like the first one. Once you see what's inside... you'll understand why I need to come to your garden." [/lang]
Eitan
"Why are you doing this?"
"Because I've been studying these systems for years. Watching them evolve. Documenting their development." And three months ago, the system's interest in you changed."
"Changed how?"
[en]"A cascade of internal responses. Reallocations. As if it had made some kind of... prediction. Or plan." I don't know the cause. But I know I had to do something before it was too late." [/lang]
"Tomorrow night, I'll show you what that interest looks like. And then we can discuss whether your withdrawal has been as effective as you believe."
Eitan
